Julie Goodnight, Horse Trainer & Clinician

Julie Goodnight has been a full-time equine professional for more than 20 years, with a varied background ranging from dressage and jumping to racing, reining, colt-starting and wilderness riding. Goodnight is known for her upbeat and logical style of teaching and her ability to bridge natural horsemanship techniques with the principles of classical riding.

Julie Goodnight resides at her home and horse ranch in Salida, Colorado with her husband, Rich Moorhead, the CEO of Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area, and her teenage son, Hunter Goodnight, a high school student at the New Mexico Military Institute.

Goodnight is owner of Goodnight Training Stables, Inc., located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado and specializes in starting young horses under-saddle and educating older horses. She spends much of the year traveling around the country conducting horsemanship clinics for riders and horses of all disciplines and ability levels, including riding skills, horse handling, fear management for riders and CHA instructor certification.

Julie Goodnight is the Program Director for the Certified Horsemanship Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the safety and quality of riding programs. She is a frequent speaker at clinics, conferences, and horse fairs around the country, training equine professionals and giving straightforward answers and practical information to horse enthusiasts. Goodnight's training and teaching techniques are frequent features of Western Horseman, Equus, The Trails Less Traveled and The Instructor magazines.
